What, buses are full of screaming kids during school hours? And I think trains come off the rails about 1000 times less than cars come off the road....and it's not unknown for people to arrive late when they drive....however it is true to say that better public transport would help, particularly late at night. But on the other hand drunks can be a problem to the operator, themselves and other people and bus and rail companies are reluctant to get involved.
Even with perfect public transport there would still be plenty of idiots who would still drink drive. Taxi anyone? If you can afford the booze you can afford a cab.

On New years eve i went drink driving and got caught then i was banned for a year. I did a course on it to reduce my ban. The group consensus's was that if transport was free after a certain time and more regular then they would be less drink driving - also free phone's to book cab's from - but at the end of the day it's personal choice weather you drink drive or not
There are ppl out there that would still do it if transport was free round the clock - i wouldn't

That seems like pretty logical reasoning. If drunk people don't drive, then there wouldn't be drunk drivers ---and drunk driving accidents. I'm all for it. But with few or no riders past 2AM, there wouldn't be any economic justification for buses/trains to operate at that hour. Just go home (drunk) at 1AM instead.

No self-respecting bus driver would allow a drunk onto his vehicle so your choice of public transport will probably be limited to a taxi if you could persuade one to take you.
What is the attraction in getting yourself drunk anyway?
