Yes, why not, women wear trousers.
In many cultures, skirts such as kilts and sarongs are worn by men.
I had a male friend who wore skirts, without considering himself a transvestite.

I've worn them plenty of times on dates and no one ever has an issue with it. In fact, parties seem to be the places where they work the best next to dating. Women always compliment me on how nice my legs look in a skirt and I'm an older male ! I get the same response every time a woman sees me in a denim skirt, "Damn, your legs look REALLY sexy in a skirt !" and then they go on to say how impressed they were and when we get complimented on dates it makes my date want to go out and buy me more denim skirts :">
It's a matter of style and trendiness I guess. People are changing their attitudes towards what is socially acceptable and they're starting to realize skirts are not only more comfortable but the right thing for a guy to wear, especially on a date with a girl. In the entire 5 years I've worn them out in public I've never once had an incident with anyone, if anything I get a question or two about where I got my skirt and hose or shoes and then I always get a smile and I've even gotten a girlfriend as a result of a bunch of people in a bookstore asking questions...she came up to me in front of them and asked me for a date and they all clapped when I said YES ! :">
My advice to crossdressers, especially those who are like me that want to present as males, but opt for something a LOT more comfortable and healthy. Don't contemplate it, get a solid colored denim skirt and get out there...the first 10 minutes will be nerve wracking, but all of a sudden you'll realize no one is really changing the way they approach you, in fact some people will just wave and say "hi" even more...then you'll ask yourself why didn't I try this before ? After the second time out you'll just consider it normal like everyone else does and it will become a norm to the people around you like it did for me... ;-)
I recommend blending in, nothing flashy or flowery, just solid denim or fine fabrics and definitely NOT a miniskirt. Knee length is the best and wear a polo or a tie with a decent shirt, hoodie or jacket as appropriate for the weather. The worst you can do is look like a punk rocker and no one is going to touch them ! :"> The best you can do is do like I did and pick up a date with someone who's open minded and likes the idea of change... ;-)
The world is changing...change with it or your kids will be left behind...

Should society be accepting of women wearing pants?

I'm fine with it as long as the skirts are plaid and worn in the traditional "commando" style.

I witnessed it.
It wasn't a very pretty sight
but you can't tell him not to
wear it. If he wants to wear it
then Let Him.

Definitely. Everyone should wear what they want. Or not wear(but that's another story).
