If people did not have names they would have nothing to identify themselves with. A name is your identity almost, it says who you are, like you ARE becky. That is your NAME.

Imaginie you're in a room full of people and you want to get your friend. Just saying "Hey, come on" would have everyone coming to you. We need names to distinguish ourselves from each other. Our names are also closely tied to our identities. Some names you adore because they remind you of those you love. Some names are hated because they belonged to horrible people. They are a necessary part of being human.

So we can distinguish them from other people...everything has/needs a name; the same goes for people. Thank goodness cuz otherwise, we'd be pretty stupid and the world would be even more obsessed with looks. We'd have to use pictures of people to explain who they are...what a pain!

Do you mean the origin of names? We've had names LONG before there was recorded history so it's impossible to trace now.
