My friends in Pol read and recommended 'The Pianist' in Polish.

The main character and the setting of this SF series are Polish.
Leo Frankowski, an American now living in Russia, wrote "The Crosstime Engineer" series. It is about an American educated Polish engineer unwittingly being transported back to 13th century Poland. He has to start the industrial revolution early in order to stop the Mongol invasion beginning in 10 years.
This series is great fun. I have read it 4 or 5 times and still laugh out loud in places.
