what word would you use to describe someone who uses all his strength and tries his best to walk through a quagmire?

I am sorry I didn't make it clear, I meant the verb to describe the action of walking through the quagmire.

I would go for "trudge"

"Walk heavily and firmly, as when weary, or through mud."

there are so many words that could be used
What I would do if I were you is find a base word like determined and then search for synonyms of that word.
