I doubt anyone wants a house with no windows but basements are a good idea, unfortunately in many parts of tornado alley there is shallow bed rock so basements are expensive.

Since houses are generally built by developers, not people that care, imagine what gets built.

anyway since we are talking about Oklahoma and Kansas, whoever heard of an underground trailer?

It's not practical or necessary. Of course you hear the stories about towns getting hit multiple times, but even if you were to sit in the county that has the highest frequency of tornadoes (somewhere in Oklahoma I believe) and don't move, the probability of being hit by a tornado is about every 200 years or so. Many people in tornado prone areas never see one their entire lives.
Everywhere people live there is a chance of a natural disaster. You just have to be informed and prepared.

I have seriously thought about that. Why don't they in the entire tornado alley. Then the tornadoes wouldn't have a chance but that would drive people insane. Like on the movie "blast from the past" where the boy is raised and all underground finally surfaces and looks crazy cause he never seen the daylight. It would drive me crazy cause I would never see the the sun.

While it is not economical to build homes and towns underground, many areas are promoting all utilities be buried underground.

Would you like to go all day without seeing the sunlight?

Besides, most buildings have basements.
