They are corny and very annoying ... but they're a great way to find out where family members and close friends are and what they're up to, especially if they're spread out around the country. But the worst ones are those from people you see periodically who just want a forum to brag about their underachieving children as if they are really accomplishing something. They end up in the trash, only partially read, around my house!

Anything with both family and Christmas is corny.

What do you should realize by using asserting that? that's the season of goodwill and cheer and stating stuff like operations, ailment, breakups, divorce, etc. is irrelevant for a Christmas card. whilst asked in individual, you quietly say "we are no longer mutually anymore". whilst pressed for information you're saying "because of the fact we are no longer mutually". well mannered human beings do no longer communicate the grimy information with much less-than-incredibly-intimate acquaintances and relatives.

I would say they are nauseating. At least in this family.

All you read is how great and wonderful all of their year's accomplishments were. You never hear about the fact that their wife is addicted to crystal meth, or little Johnny is in juvenile detention, or that Uncle Frank is a pedophile....just blah blah blah about how great and wonderful their life is. Yes, I think they're pretty outdated. It used to be a way of telling people you normally wouldn't see what is going on, but with the advent of email and the internet, people keep in pretty close touch. Besides, to me, it's always been a way to brag about your new house, new car, new pool....blah,blah,blah.

Not at all! It brings out-of-towners up to speed on what you and your family has been doing all year. I do one myself. I say go for it!

Merry Christmas!
