It depends on what you are doing. Upgrading RAM will help a great amount with gaming and resource intensive programs (such as a video editor). I recommend that you buy a stick of RAM to get at least 512MB. This way, you can be sure that you will be able to run a basic version Windows Vista.

Ram memory comes in multiples of 64, so I'm puzzled by where you got 248Mb of RAM. It should be 256, and twice that would be 512Mb. If you are running Windows XP and your motherboard and processor will support it, 512Mb will definitely make your computer run faster, as it doesn't have to work so hard to find things.

Yes. The RAM is short for "Random Access Memory" which is used for temporary processes, and storing internet files (like "cookies"). 248MB is a very, very small amount of RAM compared to today's standards. Most computer hardcore nerds like me would simply not survive with 248MB!!!

You probably have 256 MB, since ram capacity comes in powers of two. And yes, adding more ram will increase your computer's speed. Most people have 512 MB these days, and that's a good amount to have. You would need more (like 1 GB) if you play huge computer games with detailed graphics.

If you are running anything newer than WindBlows 2000, you are running on the edge of useability, so bumping up to 512MB is a good idea.
Windblows swaps programs to hard disk when it runs out of memory and that is what slows the system down.
Get CachemanXP ( free from the net ) and run it to manage memory in WindBlows....

the speed of the system varies with the processor you use..
and ofcourse the ram too.
case if ;you wanna upgrade just add 256mb ram more ok..
not more than that.. and check if your system is faster than before..
even if you add 1gb ram you wont get the full effecitency..
so better go with 256 more on your pc.
