Well, the USA does seem to entertain a great deal of ignorance...but no more so than those folks in China, who up until about 20 years ago still fed into the belief that Americans still rode around in wagons and had no electricity.
Ignorance is universal.
Sad...but true.

What's worse than that is the belief of some Americans that the way things are in the USA is the way that they should be throughout the world.
I was once in a hotel in Seoul, when I heard this ignorant boistrous American screaming at the desk clerk about the way a particular tax was calculated. He was yelling "In America, that's illegal", thinking that American laws somehow applied about 10 time zones away.
I felt two emotions: I wanted to grab him and scream back "YOU'RE NOT IN AMERICA S**THEAD". The other part of me wanted to divest myself from any part of being American.
Another time, also in Seoul, I'm eating breakfast and at a couple of tables over, there was this group with language resembling the crap at an early morning barroom. Being the Hotel Intercontinental, I don't think the crowd really deserved that sort of language.
Seoul is one of the largest cities in the world, and people are so trustworthy that you can park your car behind another, leave it unlocked with the keys inside so the person you blocked can move yours to get out, trusting that they will move it back safely.
I saw this sign suspended from two weather baloons, simply tied to a railing. There was no concern that someone would untie them to float the sign away. The immaturity and irreverence and disdain for public property that exists in the USA is not universal. The land of plenty really seems like the land of lost moral sensibilities.

I'm with you. I think there are some Americans who don't know about some of the appalling living conditions that people in other countries must endure. They also don't realize how little workers who make a lot of their clothes, shoes, etc are paid a mere pittance while the company makes a load of money on the product. I doubt the people who make Nike shoes could ever afford to buy a pair.

Yes, especially if you have never been outside of the US. But I beg to differ on the most hated. Being the best attracts allot of attention. Most just want the US dollar. Or suffer due to poverty and civil unrest. Since the turn of the century it is a fact that our popularity has plummeted. Hopefully we can find a solution to strengthen our bonds with the rest of the world.

Yes i agree, the word is called naive... in the US we have two neighbors Canada and Mexico, and both on good terms... as a result we assume an attitude (its not in my yard)... which was the US mind set during several conflicts and wars... whereas other countries have several neighbors and not on good terms... the problem with illegal aliens, terrorist, plagues etc is greatly increased as to the US. another fact is that the news largely is to blame for this continued attitude (ignorance of world events) really the "world news " has gotten shorter and shorter and the adds (the latest computer game craze) takes ever increasing time.
is it true that "ignorance is bliss" I say ignorance is slavery at best and control at the least.

i'm happy to hearken to you assert those issues because of the fact we don't desire you right here. that is humorous how foreigners only shop pouring into the U. S. consistently, on an identical time losers such as you bemoan the final way of existence in the international. television could be trashy because of the fact some like it like that. you could turn it off. I even have over 500 channels coming to my domicile and maximum are alternatives like the heritage Channel, Discovery, the academic Channel, Biography, etc. We only export our crap because of the fact it is all foreigners desire. collectively as some corruption truthfully exists in our government i've got faith very secure in asserting we've the least corrupt government in the international. The French and Russians making secret oil field bargains with Saddam, The Mexican government funneling surprisingly much all the funds of their usa to the druglords and the human beings who safeguard them after which sending their human beings to united statesa. to discover artwork because of the fact their evil politicians stifle any form of monetary boost. The media is biased yet right here is the rub. all the liberals experience that's biased in the direction of the conservatives and that they are in a position to make a case. all the conservatives experience that that's biased in the direction of the liberals, and that they are in a position to make a case. a minimum of media bias is permitted on any front. attempt gazing Al Jazeer as quickly as in collectively as, or paying interest to any media outlet in countless the 0.33 international. the prejudice is severe and easily swings one way. a minimum of right here we are cost to be as biased as we might like and readers have many alternatives to make a call from. united statesa. has countless issues and continues to be by a ways the only usa in the international nicely worth living in and shortage of existence for. Please do no longer come!

I think a lot of Americans think the whole world should be like this and that people elsewhere feel it should be (they don't). I remember one first lady (I think it was Pat Nixon) who said (about Israel), "I just don't understand those Jews and Muslims. Why can't they just get along and be good Christians." Unfortunately, a lot of this is carrying on into our diplomatic policies.

i read the question four times and still do not get the point...are you saying that the monotony of everyday American civilization is taken for granted by Americans and hated by others countries...if so i can dig that...everyone hates us but who cares...not me...just leave me alone...half of my culture is not American any way and the rest should not be American since most of my ancestors did not ask to be here in the first place.
