Because, like so many Whites here---including myself, they DO have Native American heritage.

It's pretty much a fact. I think believing we have Native-American heritage has something to do with hearing all those stories where our parents talked about the struggles of their Native American grandparents, and great-grand parents. As for the claim, I think Native-American heritage is so common among Black Americans, it's just understood, not spoken about. I think that whites are quicker to "claim" this heritage than blacks.

I have some native American blood and I'm mostly black. My great-great grandmother was a Black foot Native American that migrated from Canada to New Jersey(where I'm from). But in my class, myself and another student are the only ones that claim that we have Native American blood. But I'm a bit Native American, Dutch, and Portuguese! So some blacks do have Native American blood in them. Is there a problem? There shouldn't be? okay well Merry Christmas and have a wonderful day!

Honestly, because many do. If you look at history, it was a survival technique. Both Native and Black people were considered inferior races by the colonists and "early Americans" and were forced into slavery together. It was only natural that they would bond and help each other.

First off - Your question is a very generalized one.

Second of all - I do for a fact have Indian in my family. My maternal great-grandmother was full blooded Indian. There's no need for me to go around claiming it though. You know why? Because It's no one's business.
