I need to set up a computer that will host files for my office. We need to be able to connect into that computer from each PC in the office. We have DSL and all the computers are connected to the internet through a D-Link switch. Do I need to buy a router to accomplish this?

Not at all. All you need to do is set up one PC as basically a file server. Now if this is going to hold a database or something very important like that then you need to set it up using RAID. There are a lot of inexpensive ways to do what you need. You need to think about what the office needs are now and for future expansion as well. You will also need to think about a solution for backing up data on each PC and on the file server, and a UPS.

If everyone can connect to the internet through the same switch you should be able to just set permissions to allow each computer to communicate with each other.

This may also help.
