Is there any other type of beginning that our species could have experimented with?
If there aren't, what are some good ideas?

Here is one other way how we may have started on earth.
We could all be descendants of aliens! Here is why.
Our planet earth started out as a penal institution of the universe!
The reason is the following. What can you do with people who have committed a crime in an advanced civilization?
You can certainly not kill them, it would be too barbarian. So you round them up and also pick up those from your neighboring planets and put them all on an inhabited planet. Each group in a different continent. Living conditions may be hard at first -fighting dinosaurs and wild beasts- but can be improved with effort.
This scenario would explain many things. Like the belief of being cast out of "heaven" , the many different colors and races that we have on earth, the many languages spoken, etc..
It also provides an explanation for the violent and criminal mentality of some people. Bad genes resurfacing!
What is also amazing is the amount of knowledge that ancient civilizations had. Medicine, architecture, astronomy. This could have it's origin in the advanced knowledge that their ancestors possessed when they were seeded on earth.
In a few hundred years we will also be sending our inmates together with those of other federated planets to some distant uninhabited planet etc..

I believe this is the only way (though I am willing to sport the Alien conspiracy, which actually I will be trying to bring to light, after my schooling, I am studying in Archaeology)
You are asking quite a good question, and It is worth be asking to one of my teachers, I wonder what would their answer be. As for what I have learned so far, I don't belive it could have been otherwise really. H-G started off as simple, equal politic organization, where there was no surplus and people were nomadic (just like the !Kung, today), then they changed to 'complex' H-G, where the social/political organization involved some inequality between the members, and where status were given either by family descendents or by special merits. The chief made choices, directed the groups. Hunts brought some surplus (ceramics was 'invented' around these times) and sedentary movement appeared... Maybe it is because of my class but can't think of any other way it would have happen...

I believe in God as our creator, but, for speculation, let's look at this scenario.
Many Thousands of years ago this highly intelligent race of beings. They reached to the universe as their technology allowed. Being highly advanced in DNA and Cloning they seeded Earth. First they established an Atmosphere and began the basic horticultural. Then established life using the DNA and Cloning Technology and let this take it's course. Because this is in an experimental stage they come from time to time to evaluate their experiment. They may take a person, animal or plant and evaluate it through various experiments and possible additional cross breeding and then return to it's environment.
This one good idea, though I not believe it, I just try to answer your question.

Man is a mamal, he naturally suckles and might have continued to do so by observation. Hence some African tribes have been known to drink blood without killing the animal, cultivate milk and cheese and even drank animal urine,took honey from bees and so on!
