There is absolutely NO way to know w/out first getting it appraised. You're talking thousands of dollars in difference between a mediocre quality diamond and a high quality diamond. Any little flaw that can be seen w/a jewelers loupe(which is a magnifing glass) can depreciate a diamond greatly. Even the color of the diamond contributes to it's worth as well as the cut of the diamond

It depends on a lot of things. The cut, clarity, color, and carat weight determine the total value of a diaond. You can have a 3 carat diamond with a terrible cut or color that's worth less than a 2 carat with great cut and color. Normally an average 2 carat diamond is worth $7000-$13000. Hope that helps!
