My younger brother is going to be going off to the navy in the spring. My car is slowly dying and he has offered to give me the bike since he won't be able to use it anymore. I am in college and really can't afford to get a new car and it is something that I have wanted since i was fifteen.

My girlfriend though is vehemently opposed to the whole situation. She thinks it is the worse idea ever. Does anyone know the statistics on how dangerous a bike is compared to a car?

Also what is your overall opinion on the whole situation?

I think your girlfriend is amazing and awesome! She is so wise, and you are lucky to have a girlfriend who cares so much. You shouldnt test her love by getting this really dangerous bike, do you love her or what?

I would say both are dangerous. car or bikes.
Yes.it is dangerous depends to a person who will ride on the bikes..if you are careful and responsible biker, accidents worry free but if you are the agressive type,, not good idea but mostly the fault is not the biker itself on the accidents but the road conditions and traffic around.
If your GF doesn't like it, you can't blame her.
but if you take away the chance of riding into bikes, you will lose the opportunity of knowing the advantages of having a motorbike and the fun.
. you could have the bike if you think you are ready but if you have doubt.. not the time for you.
We do rallys and touring... exciting and fun and no problem for parking, less gas consumption, cheap maintenance good for traffic etc.. etc.
problems? weather condition.
If you can't deal the situations on the road, just think twice before you ride, and always think of safety around,
You are not going for a race anyways, that is far more worse to think of.

Motor cycles are dangerous since they have 2 wheels and a lot of power to boot. Of 11 guys I've known who rode bikes, 4 of them never were involved in an accident but the remainder were, none killed. In cars, I know quite a few, who have died in accidents but the remainder (99%) are alive and well, today. Your girlfriend doesn't want to be a "widow" or have to contend with you screaming on the top of a gurney while the doctors wire brush the gravel and asphalt (road rash) from your back and legs ! She must love you enough to care about you dieing or being maimed from some jerk causing you to have an accident. If you are wise, you would listen to her ... but since you are like me, you will do your own thing and end up regretting it later !!!

I don't like motorcycles, however I have had BFs who did. I just never got on the bike.

"92% of all motorcycle accidents involve untrained riders."

Get trained from a professional, not a family member. They have bike classes, not only will you learn more safety from a professional it will lower insurance costs.

Link for some statistics.

People are afraid of what they don't know.
Bikes ARE more dangerous than cars and need a greater amount of skill
I know of at least 3 men, late teens to early 20s who killed themselves riding bikes.

regrettably, she is at fault for the coincidence. in accordance to NYS V&TL she has a duty to allow secure distance operating between autos. In my occupation, I somewhat have considered this a million circumstances. Police record or no longer, a pair issues can educate the coincidence and ninety 5% of the time the coincidence is provable. - An adjuster will adventure the damage to the vehicle to the bike. - acquiring any witness suggestion to verify the FOA (information of the coincidence). - Taking recorded statements of the information. you do not choose a police record contained in the state of long island for a motor vehicle coincidence. it truly is somewhat constructive yet no longer required for minor collisions. You DO even with the undeniable fact that choose one contained in the shape injuries or a fatality are reported. it truly is a criminal offense. Couple of belongings you may do even with the reality that; - First, who owned the bike. In NYS the coverage virtually continually follows the owner of the vehicle. till your gf signed some place of work artwork performing her as a rentee of reported vehicle, often the bike employer coverage must be figuring out to purchase the damages. The damages paid out they could be able to not subrogate for. - she will be responsible for the damages to instructors vehicle, lower back the bike employer coverage will be well-known and hers will be secondary - which ability they could be able to pay provided that the first coverage employer; (a million) denied the declare, (2) paid as a lot as its coverage limits. are you able to get sued in courtroom? sure. all and dissimilar can. Will it delay? No. those procedures you aspect out are scare procedures. Get the coverage in contact and they'll end it. no one likes coping with coverage, fantastically at the same time as human beings attempt to declare lower than the incorrect channels. wish that permits! - Byron

I dont think a motorcycle is any worse than a car both have many risks but shes just worried and cares for you. Definatly learn how to lose instead of just wingin it you'll get killed. I know its sounds stupid but people have done it.
