Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Sugarland (very popular with the teen country fans), Brooks & Dunn, Johnny Cash (popularity has skyrocketed since he passed away) and Brad Paisley.

Pretty much any Sugarland song will do as far as Brad Paisley the song Whiskey Lullaby will make you cry.

It appears that Rascal Flatts, the top-selling country act of 2006, will end the year on a high note. After a 17-week climb, "My Wish" has reached No. 1 on Billboard's country airplay chart. Sugarland's "Want To" inches up one spot to No. 2, and Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" falls two notches to No. 3. Tim McGraw's "My Little Girl" follows at No. 4, and Kenny Chesney's "You Save Me" is No. 5, switching places from last week.
Brad Paisley's "She's Everything," Montgomery Gentry's "Some People Change," George Strait's "It Just Comes Natural" and Rodney Atkins' "Watching You" remain at No. 6 through No. 9, respectively. At 16 years old, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift marks her debut in the Top 10 with "Tim McGraw."
Only one new song debuts on the charts this week: Paisley's "Born on Christmas Day" at No. 54. Paisley is also at No. 60 with "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy." The Dean Martin and Martina McBride duet, "Baby It's Cold Outside," enjoys a sleigh ride -- um, make that a slight rise -- to No. 51.

Depends on if your friend likes male or female singers. Martina McBride, and Faith Hill are good female singers. John Anderson, Vince Gill, Gordon Lightfoot, James House, Diamond Rio, are all good male artists. It would be better to get into a discussion of favorite singers/bands with your friend so that you don't end up making a disc of music that he/she doesn't really like.

you should go to radioandrecords.com and check the country chart, they show the current top 60 on there and update it every week.
