People in the north are not as friendly and polite as southerners, or people from the mid-west. I think it is because the is a lot of divisiveness here. There are groups here where the people tend not to mix with others. This sometimes generates hostility and suspicion. The population in the south and mid-west seems more homogeneous.

When a lot of the people in your town down speak the common language (English), there is bound to be an element of distrust.

It depends where in the North you are. In New York City, people are generally busy, and many of them may be rude if you appear to be exceptionally annoying or incompetent. But few of them will be ignorant.

In upstate New York and Montana, people are more relaxed, and are not as busy. But they may be ignorant of international affairs, as such things don't concern them.

"Ignorant" is the wrong word to describe American Northerners, unless you misconstrued the meaning of the word to imply that they generally ignore you. Using the word correctly, they are no more or less ignorant than the average citizen in the country. In fact, they generally tend to be more educated than those who live farther south.

I don't think I'm mean or rude, I'm busy but in a sense that I do a lot of things and I'm not ignorant I want to become a doctor that goes to 3rd world countries and, yea I think I'm nice I may not have a southern accent but I will still treat you kindly. I live in upstate NY and have been to NYC many times and found that it's not the people who live ther but the tourist's that are rude, I was going on the subway and about to sit down and these two men I think they where from Ireland or Scotland went and took the seat's my mom and I where about to sit in, but then 2 other men gave their seat's to us and I know they were from there because one man said "tourist's" in a kind of mocking way that wasn't very nice but they were still nice enough to give up their seats while the two other men sat there yelling at eachother and then got off at the very next stop.

Let's see I have lived coast-to-coast and in the middle and I would say that yes Northerner's are more busy. I would think a better term for most Pacific North westerners would be "aloof". I would say that Southerners, particularly in the Kentucky and Tennessee area have cornered the market on ignorance and rudeness.

rude...sometimes, mostly when driving
Busy, all the time. We northerners always have a place to be

Ignorant, no. We are really understanding people, but we just like to be on the go all the time.

Not really. It's a stereotype. I went to N.Y., N.Y. The people that live and work there are quite friendly. It's the tourist that are usually rude, and they come from all over. I lie in Ohio, and it depends mostly on your personality.
