All of a sudden, the mp3 files on my computer and other media do not play correctly (sluggish and distorted).?

I run windows xp. Plenty of computer. Never had any problems. It's not volume or connection settings or hardware conflicts. What is wrong? Could it be my soundcard?

What player are you using? Did you try another player?
If distorted using different players if could be you sound card.
If other sounds on your computer are distorted it could be your speakers? Try headphones to compare.
You need to do some testing to isolate the problem before it can be fixed.
