My friend was in an accident the other day and he only has liability insurance and he wants to sue the person that hit him. What happened was that he was driving and a car was about to get over to get off the bridge but I guess it was the wrong exit so he swerved back over and caused a 4 car accident. Who can be held liable, if anybody?

If the car swerved over in front of your friend then he(your friend) is at fault for not driving at a speed and or not maintaining a safe enough distance between his car and the one in front of him to avoid an accident. The other driver (the one that swerved) could be considered a contributing factor but your friend, for the above reason, is the primary cause of the accident.

If there was a 4 car collision (accident implies no fault), the police had to have responded to the scene. Who did they determine was responsible? They have more information about what happened than you could possible post on Yahoo. They are probably better qualified to interpret that information than most of us.

Barry DaLive is probably correct.

The car that swerved back over is liable. However, if that person doesn't have insurance all your friend can hope for is if he carried uninsured/underinsured motorist protection on his liability policy.

if he was injured see a lawyer ... if its just about repairs to the car u should have called the insurance agent to the accident or u prolly need a police report stating it was the other guys fault .. and u deal with the other guys insurance agency and try to settle .. and if they seem to be being unfair .. c a lawyer..
