Its these sort of reactionary responses that are causing the problem anyway. If these countries would learn to work together instead of fostering greater rhetoric, most of the problems would get solved. I feel that the problem that stems from a religious sect deciding that someone outside is dangering their religion has to do more with economics than religion. The US is rich and culturally absorbing everthing in its path. Or at least, I think there's the fear of that.

I see things as though you have two apartment buildings. One building has an abundance of money and the people from the poorer one sees the afluence and partying going on and take two sides - a) I wish I was in that building, maybe I should think about joining them or b) People in my building are going to abandon our philosophies and start partying over there and I will be alone and therefore my philosophies may die with me. I must protect my beliefs at all costs.

This starts fanatics taking the hardline of why its morally right to stay with your own. the people in the rich building are having so much fun, they don't notice the problems of the other building. They start getting proud of what they're able to do and even start bragging because they must be doing something right, after all, they are the party building.

I see the world with its haves and have nots like this as the agitating influence on all of this. The US preaches Star Wars and building fences to protect the country from jealous countries attacking it and keeping the have nots from being able to join them. People in other countries that are reactionary to this imbalance speak up and its treated over here as though they are a threat. Why aren't all of these countries working together? We're able to put countries the size of Canada and the US together with different States and Provinces and widely different ideologies and make it work. Things aren't perfect, but there's an attempt being made. It's not necessarily the democracy that made it work, it's listening to how different people want to do things and coming up with a compromise. But it doesn't get done because one side wants to protect its money in the name of freedom and one side wants to protect its religion. There has to be a way to do both.

Do I think that a nuclear weapon will be brought into the US and detonated? I think the way things are going, there's more of a risk of one being made in the US and detonated. The have nots may not have money but everyone has a brain. If we can develop the knowhow to do this sort of things, anyone can. And now its easier because its already been done. It's not a theoretical thing, but an inevitable thing. The best defense is respect and understanding. Someone has to make the first step.

I think the more important questions are not do we think it could happen or when but how do we prevent this and why am I not doing anything about it. I'd like my son to grow up without fear. The best way to do that is create a world where people make an attempt to get along.

I see it as a definite possibility as well. Furthermore, there really is no way of 100% protecting ourselves. Alternative forms of energy, or other sources of oil would drive these barb*rians totally back into the 7th century, in which they have one foot firmed embedded anyway.
PS, they wouldn't need to bring the weapon into a western country, they could make it there and only need certain parts smuggled in.....for the critics, don't think this is impossible.

If they can do it with airplanes, they will try by other means.

The problem is not Islamics alone though. We have Amercian terrorists working against Americans. Technically, you can call them sympathizers to outside terrorists.

Islam is not the problem, terrorism is. The voice Muslim terrorists use is the same David Koresh and Heaven's Gate decided to utilize also.

Bush said you are safer now than you have ever been so why the doom and gloom. Besides, everyone knows that Islam is a very peaceful religion.

Oh Puhleeeze! I'm a Christian, yet it was a self proclaimed "Christian" that bombed a clinic and lived as a refugee for 5 years. I don't go around bombing clinics. Not everyone of a particular label is the worst of that category!

me too. I think it will happen within the next ten years. However, if they do, they won't have a country to go home to. There won't be an islamic country left.
