i wouldn't. The algae will absorb the chemical and the algae eater will eat it and potentially become ill and die.

also, when you start to feed an algae eater, it becomes used to you feeding it and it doesn't do the job very well.

too much algae is a red flag that there is someting wrong with your tank. Is it near a window? do you leave the light on all the time? Have you had your water tested for nitrate and nitrite?

If you limit the sunlight your tank gets and have clean water, your algae will not grow so much to where you need to use the chemical.

also, Chinese Algae eaters are really poor at eating algae. If this is what you have, just scrub the algae and feed him waffers.

algeacides will kill smooth scaled fish like loaches and sharks, and also shrimp and snails, too.

I wouldn't use the algae killer, even though it will not harm your fish, it is just an extra expense that is unneccesary. The algae eaters cannot do anything about green water or certain types of coarse hair algae.

The reason your tank and the water is turning green is because you are leaving the light on too long or it is sitting in front of a window where it gets too much light. Over feeding will also cause a build-up of nitrates that is food for the algae. Cutting back on the amount and frequency of feeding and regular (weekly) partial (25-30%) water changes will take care of the nitrate problem.

Unless you have live plants, you only need the light on when you are there to watch your fish. Fish don't need light. Tanks with live plants need about 6-10 hours of light a day depending on the type of plants.

If you don't have live plants, just keep the light off and cover the tank completely (keep it totally dark) during the day for about a week. Only take the cover off when you feed them or do your partial 25-30% water change each week. In 7-10 days, the algae will have died and your water should be crystal clear.

Its ok to put stuff in your water to combat algae but its cheaper to find out what is causing the excess algae and it is usually to much light......either artifical or natural......if its artifical......don't leave your lights on so long.......also if you water is too warm this can also cause it ......keep temp around 75-80

yea you can but make sure it's not to powerful or it will kill all the alge and your fish won't have anything to eat. I would if there is still alge in there.
