A, B-complex, D , and E vitamins
eating gelatin helps strengthen nails and improve hair
Vitamin E helps prevent and even fix scars, and old acne scars, and helps eliminate dry itchy skin, E helps new growth of new skin cells, and helps reduce perspiration odour, and counteracts effects of aging
Vitamin A helps maintain smooth, soft, disease-free skin
Vitamins B-complex help to prevent and fight infections, and prevent de-oxidation of cells.
There can be negative health effects of taking too much of some kinds of vitamins and minerals. Also, usually a combination of several nutrients will work better, since many vitamins and minerals help each other function better. Some vitamins can be absorbed into the skin from outside the skin, such as vitamin E, while other vitamins will not absorb into skin (such as vitamin C).
Zinc is also a necessary nutrient, although its not a vitamin, it helps transport vitamin A from storage place in the liver out to other places in the body, like the skin.
Vitamins and minerals work together, and too much of something may disturb balances and cause other problems in the long run. Its best to have a healthy well-balanced diet, and multiple vitamins as opposed to just picking one kind of vitamin and taking too much of it. You could also combine vitamin A or vitamin E cream on the outside of the skin in combination with oral supplements, but don't be conned by products for the outside of the skin which the skin won't even absorb (vitamin C). (Vitamin C helps make vitamin E last longer and perform better inside the body, and acts as an antioxident preventing aging and preventing cancers, although not directly doing anything to skin, its still beneficial indirectly). Some vitamins and minerals are interdependent, like vitamin A and zinc, it won't work properly without zinc. (A good total amount of zinc would be 10 to 25 mg per day, never take more than 50 per day or you will be sick.)
Most vitamins and minerals are synergistic; each works better if it has other vitamins along with it.
Oh, and just in case, avoid smoking or second-hand smoke, avoid excessive alcohol, because they deplete the vitamins in the body, and do exercise or sauna, because increased micro-circulation of blood closer to the skin helps provide nutrients and moisture to the skin, and sweating helps clean out the pores.

Biotin is essential for hair, skin, and nails, but you need a balanced diet to really make it work. I take Andrew Lessman's Women's Complete (available at qvc.com) and I find they really help. The one big drawback: no iron, so I take an iron supplement too. Good Luck!!
