These guys I work with are the worst. It can be the midde of winter and you've got people going around with white pants, black socks, and brown sandals. If they still gave out pocket protectors these guys would have them. And what's with the black dress pants are white socks? Don't they know they look like geeks?

As an engineer I can tell you that engineers work too hard. Companies give them too much work and too much responsibilities. Most of them just accept it and live with it. Their minds are so overloaded with logical and scientific fact that they are unbalanced. It's really sad. Working at a car company, all people there think about (eat, sleep, and dream) cars. And parts and nuts and bolts. When I bring up polar bears and fun stuff like nature and life and love and non-engineering interest like maybe sociology, shopping..etc.., they all seem out of their element. The conversation goes quickly back to cars and parts and their jobs. Never any discussion about sports!!?!?!? It's really sad. It's a total turn off being around a bunch of boring engineers. Most of them are nerds. So with their focus so much on one thing and very little on the mainstream society, it's no wonder they dress the way they do. To dress any better would require thought. And all their thought is on technical crap...thanks to the damn companies they work for that treats them like dogs. Fools. They are being totally exploited and their greed for money and knowledge keep them hooked. There's a whole world out there. But all they see is the equation describing that world and not the beauty of the world itself. So very sad.
Me, on the other hand, am not like the rest. I constantly think outside the box. Hey look where I am..."Beauty and Fashion"! I doubt anyone I work with would ever be here. So socks with sandles??? What the hell??? Ewwww gross.

They have no sense of style. The objective is to cover the body in a comfortable, acceptable set of clothing, nothing more. Shirt, pants, shoes and socks - done.
They also do not look in mirrors when they are dressing.
Look like geeks? It's not JUST look like geeks. The thinking and behavior are there to match. Their value system does not include considering the opinion of other people. "What's it to you?"
If you challenge them on it, they are very likely to withdraw (turtle head retracts into shell) and ignore you. Even when you try to suggest that they would look SOOOO much better dressing differently, the information is heavily discounted unless they REALLY like you and want to make/keep you happy.
Calling them a geek is like positive recognition, so I cannot recommend it as a strategy for change.

because they don't care about image they care only about scientific facts and other mumbo jumbo crap like that. the professors at my college dress like garbage too. Why do you think film producer's, directors, and writers can come up with the weird image of ppl in movies that are engineers or scientist
