Living beings are all about surviving, but not humans. A person can have large amounts of food, and kill himself out of boredom, for example...
The laws of evolution can explain how an intelligent being can have it easy to survive. But the irony is that an intelligent being can be so intelligent that he decides that surviving is no longer the primary goal. So the laws of evolution killed themselves, at this point, they commited involuntary suicide.

There are ways to interpret evolutionary processes as organism-driven instead of mechanistic passivity.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biosemiotics
But I agree that 'intelligence' or coming to truth as such is dubious-- everywhere it is lauded as the highest virtue, foundation for all value, and at the same time something you may not want to hear.
-----------------
"Not one person has pointed out to you that there is no law of evolution, just a theory."
You must not know anything about biosemiotics.
"and there is no inducement for organismic survival, beyond reproduction/replication."
So you are a Freudian? I find it hard to believe that ALL the purposes, desires, pleasures in life reduce to sex.
"It is about maximizing inclusive fitness; not survival."
What is what about? -- you're talking about an unspecified domain. Oddly enough, biosemioticians prioritize biological subjectification. But, you know 'fitness' just refers to the organisms that reproduce the most-- of course survival is a factor. It's a constiutive factor of genetic development that a fit organism not only survives to reproduce prodigiously, but that the progeny carry on the tradition. What good does "inclusive fitness" do for the gene pool, if survival doesn't play any role? None.
"You forget that evolved behaviors can become maladaptive out of there environmental context."
The evolved intelligence of homo sapiens is not maladapted to our man-made world. That people kill themselves or affirm life-denying philosophies is an indication of their own weakness (nature / nurture and everything in between). And not that intelligence is itself at fault -- it's not possible to thrive on earth without it, let alone survive.
"Typical of the philosophy section."
Typical of you.
-----------------
Any so-called 'intelligence' that comes to the suicidal conclusion has truly lost all sense of the absurd: that one should believe premises that lead to death rather than fact-checking is not a person nor 'philosophy' fit for this world. Their "truth" is our insanity.

Humans are said to be rational animals. We are endowed with the capability to think and reason out. Unlike other animals, we are given the will to follow our concept of right and wrong, good or bad. We don't live with our instincts alone, we use our brains to decide which way or thing is acceptable both in the eyes of the people and, if we follow a certain religion, in the eyes of our GODS. People end up killing themselves because they could not keep up doing what is considered morally acceptable. Sometimes we want to do something which is a deviation from what we believe to be moral. But since we are aware that this thing is immoral we are haunted by our conscience and the weight of unbearable guilt is one of the many factors that lead man to taking his own life.

you know you are close to really thinking this through. The bible teaches God gave man dominion over creation and how would evolution explain that? How can traits not possessed be passed on? Anyways dis harmony is part of our sinful nature. One of the first words a child is taught is NO and one of the first concepts they can grasp is MINE..REligion is an attempt at man to return to a harmonious nature. The problem is already there and lack of religion is not the answer. The problem is real religion and truth will lead to Jesus Christ. And real followers of Christ should be a blessing as the overcome the self centered fallen nature.

We are intelligent human beings. Knowing and having the power and will to live or not to live. Tyrany, oppression, persecution and greed appear to be the downfall of humans that choose that path of darkness you may be referring to. Now can humans be intelligent enough to know the difference. The power to change the earth for better or for worse. Having the courage to make change no matter what age you are. The movie "Happy Feet" showed that one person can make a difference. =<)

You have an interesting point. I think that part of our natural imperfections is the burden of such a powerful mind, capable of creating entire worlds out of nowhere, and thus capable of ending our world.
