If you are talking about the movie with Robin Williams, then
there was no backup actor, persay. If the actor who was
contracted to play the part was, for what ever reason, unable to
fulfill his contractual obligation, the actor who was the second
choice would be called to see if he could do it. The other
possibility is that they would test another actor.
