Just rec'd a gorgeous poinsetta, but I've heard they're hard to keep alive. Any tips or suggestions?

If it matters, its the red kind with a little white on the leaves.

Keep out of the sun.....direct sunlight into the room is good, just don't set the plant in the sun, ever. Once the sun moves away from my east window by 2 hours, I set the plant on the window sil..for 2 hours..then move it in to the counter
Since it is winter time, the house will be dry because of the heat in the house.....
Set your plant in the sink every 8 days, take it out of the red foil, water it till it runs through....Let stay in sink 1 hour. Put back with foil around it.....Just do these few steps all the time. I've had my poinsetta for 1 year...It was in the 60's the other day, I took it out in the shade, then forgot to bring it in, and we had a freeze overnight..I was sad b/cause it died. Good luck with yours.
Oh, and mine stayed in bloom all year.......By Sept. cover plant with a plastic bag for darkness,(loosey) then december take it off

First, Poinsettas HATE the cold. They are tropical plants. Make sure they have plenty of water, but don't drown them. Keep them in a well lit area (lit by natural sunlight preferrably) that's not too cold by draft. If it wilts, give it more water. Check to see if it has enough H2O by feeling the soil. If it is damp, then it has enough. If it is dry. . .give it enough water. . .If it is in a medium pot like the size of the ones they sell at (any name)-Mart stores, then about 2 cups should be enough (use a measuring cup).
