Irony is a trope such that the speaker meaning is the opposite of the proposition expressed.
Steve Irwin's death is ironic.
He was a crocodile hunter, but he was killed by a manta unknown to cause harm to humans. He was recognized for his invincibility. Yes, it's tragic that he died, but it's also ironic when invincible people perish, when supermodels trip, or the queen farts.
If you don't have a robust sense of semiotics then no event is ever ironic, because it isn't written down intentionally by an author. But that defies our usage anyway, events can be ironic.
"Def. 5 an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected. Def. 6 the incongruity of this."
The unexpected event belies the truth of the conventional description such that we are compelled to reinterpret the commonsensical parsing of an individual, an event, a character type; and laugh at the transgression, even though there is no author but US, as a linguistic community, writing the book collectively in our minds.
----------
Anything outrageous or unacceptable is also obviously ridiculous, something SUBJECTABLE to ridicule because it falls outside the ordinary.
This entire thread is ironic ---- one would expect that you all know what you are talking about so disdainfully.

Wow, being a foreigner, I though "ironic" is just slightly different in English because it turns out that people misuse it all the time. Well after your frustrated question I know that it isn't.
Another word is probably "ridiculous" when it really should be "outrageus" or "unacceptible"

A misogynist is a guy who has contempt for women who do no longer in fantastic condition into his forms of what a woman must be. So a guy can like to ascertain acceptable women, like to be nurtured by using his mom, and love his spouse who makes him dinner and nonetheless be a misogynist if he hates the idea of girls who're equivalent. Does that make experience? in case you want your perfect of girls yet hate the genuine women who exist, it truly is being a misogynist. i do not imagine only having a woman in a music video is misogynistic, even with the truth that. i'd say use the "father" try. in case you'd be proud to work out your daughter in that function in the music video (your daughter being someone who you actually love) this is probable fantastic. If no longer, there is a few thing about it that shows some disrespect in route of girls. i'm nonetheless no longer constructive if it may fairly be misogynistic, even with the truth that. women must be seen as completely sexualized beings, yet when the lyrics are announcing that one and all women are reliable for is sex (or some thing that means it) it type of feels rather contemptuous to me. also, if you're being referred to as misogynist for having sexual innovations about a woman, that would not make a lot experience. if you're announcing that the actually ingredient women is reliable for is sex, that feels like being a misogynist.

I get annoyed by people using "your" when they mean "you're" (as the contracted form of "you are"), but then I've got a million of them so I'll stop now. It's always irritating when people misuse words, but I've been guilty of it myself. What's hard is knowing when it's okay to correct someone and when it's best to just let it go.
