Well mostly from Western Africa, part of the greater Bantu speaking proto-empire of the 1500's and 1600's.
Without DNA sampling we know that the Bantu-speaking peoples of Western Africa had spread and were and are predominant in sub-saharan Africa to this day. In the time of active European/Arabian slave-trade, the Bantu proto-empire (which itself practiced slavery through conquest), would send the defeated to the coasts in waves when Europeans came looking for slaves.
So while a good percentage of Bantu are in the original mix a disproprortionally large percentage were captured from what would have been the "inaccessable" interior of Africa , perhaps whole tribes of peoples, were dislocated and/or wiped out.
So without individual family history/geneology and genetic tests not to mention some transcript from the slavers (unlikely but possible) it would be not specifically possible to say where exactly an individual could be from based on DNA.

Their dominant ancestry is from sub-Saharan West Africa. Many African Americans also claim European, Native American, or Asian ancestors. There are also a number from the Caribbean.
