Either you have misunderstood Belkin or Belkin have lost the plot..I suspect the latter...You don't put your IP address into your computer, your wireless modem router assigns an IP address to your computer, when they are able to communicate (without you having to do a thing)...& this assigned IP address will be something like 192.168.2.X. & can be got by going to Start, Run, type cmd & at the prompt type ipconfig. But this address will show only when the router is in communication with your computer.
Connect your computer to the modem router by ethernet cable & go to Start, Run then type in cmd (or command if you are on win98)..then at the prompt type ping 192.168.2.1
If you get a reply then your PC is communicating with your modem router.
I suspect that you will get "request timed out" as the reply ie there is no communication. Don't let Belkin fob you off...they have told you a load of rubbish, it has nothing to do with your PC being faulty..it is to do with settings or a faulty router ...Get back to them.
Good luck.

PS.
You can try this to see if it works..(it does sometimes). Have your computer on, wired to the router via ethernet cable, then unplug the router from the mains..leave 10 seconds..plug back in & try to access 192.168.2.1 again.

First make sure that DHCP is enabled on the network adapter on your PC.

Power down all of your equipment. Ensure that the phone line with the RJ11 connector is plugged into the RJ11 connector in the back, should be marked DSL. The Ethernet patch cord with the RJ45 connectors should go from the LAN port on the router to the NIC in your PC. Power up the DSL modem and wait for the Link light to come on. Then power up your PC. Go to "Start" then "Run" and type in cmd. at the command prompt type c:\ipconfig /all

If set up properly you should be getting an IP address from the DHCP server in the DSL router. Try to ping the default gateway, that is the router IP address. If successful then you should be able to log into the router.
