I don't know of anyone going insane...
But, I would disagree with music being finite... Seeing as how one has a lot of choices for instraments, both traditional, and creative, (Stomp uses things like cans, sticks, and what not).
Then there is the ever changing dialog of all the different languages.
Then factor in "meshing". Where you write a song, and play it with another co-existing song, (Boulivard Of Broken Dreams uses an Oasis song, where instramental part of the Oasis song is where Green Day does it's singing, and the part where there would be lyrics for the Oasis song is just instramental. If you listen carefully you can recognize the Oasis song providing you are familar with the band). This style is starting to really pick up...
There is also sampling, like what a lot of underground DJ's do. Taking beats, rythms, and lyrics from various songs and mixing them into one.
There is also the fact that there are many genres of music, and now the lines between them are starting to blur. Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Pain, Champion, Gorillaz...
Speaking of Gorillaz... They are a "Super Group"... Meaning that they are comprized of well know artists from other groups. Another group like this is the Traveling Wilburys.
Then there is the classic rendition of pre-existing songs... Like Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones, Hurt by Johnny Cash, and I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Mark Chestnut to name a few.
With all of these said... *twitch* *babal, babal* *twitch* AHHHHHH....
