The choice cannot be narrowed down to these two alone. Naturallly these two are important - be contended with what you have which should assure your minimum requirements and also helping other people. Only when you answer the first as 'yes', you can go for the second. Helping other people also is involved with some availability of resources for the same.
Personal happiness will be at its peak, when the above are assoicated with the feeling that you have done what is expected of you with respect to your responsibility and duty towards the family and society.

I believe it is a personal opinion. I think that not having any wants/needs will cause a person to have a loss of goals which will, in turn, cause one's personal happiness to decline in the long run. This is because the person will not have anything to strive for or do. I also think that helping other people, although feels good at heart, may not be more important to personal happiness. This is because you fulfill the wants/needs of others without helping yourself. Helping others too often may cause you to lose touch with yourself.

Thats just what I think.

Everyone has wants and needs.
Some people need to love so they give everything they can to others and hope that they get some love back.

Helping other people is much more important. Think about it, we depend on other people to survive every day.
I think it is impossible to have no wants or needs because then you dont desire anything and life is pointless. Even the greatest hermits have wants and needs.

I say helping other people. I believe that it is impossible to want nothing. Even if u get ure hand on everything in the world, u'll still want more... like, you'll get a hollow feeling. When u help someone, well, when I help someone, and they sincerely thank me, I get all happy inside and thats enough for me.

The bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive. So helping others definitely is more important to personal happiness.

First one should understand our constitutional position as spirit soul, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul. We are not these bodies,ei; race, color, religion, nationality, job, senses, etc. We have an eternal relationship with our maker also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We have to understand what would please God in all our activities. We have to first do our activities as an offering to Him and then there will be no karma(reaction to our actions) involved. Though their are certain activities one can not offer such as sinful ones. go to krishnaculture. for complete details and read Bhagavad-Gita As it is to(Song of God) understand this knowledge given by God Himself. Then there will be no Karmic reaction to our actions.
