It is about the metabolism of the medication and it's action, how long it should last and how it is absorbed. Some medications would not do you any good if they were absorbed to fast or they could be dangerous. Like cardiac medications if they are absorbed to fast they can cause your heart rate to drop to low or you blood pressure to drop too much.

They do make chewable pills, but not for everything. Some pills are really nasty-tasting if chewed. And some other medicines are meant to dissolve slowly in your intestine (controlled-release).

I always had a fear of swallowing pills, but I'm well over that now. I used to choke on them something fierce, but somehow I got past it.

I still have to swallow water with them most of the time. Or I have to let spit buld up in my mouth so I can swallow it better. I also make that motion with my head like I'm gulping something -- that helps too.

They do make some chewable pills. But the majority of the medicine tastes so bad no one could chew it. And they can't have the saliva combining with the medicine. It could be counter active. Why is this question in alternative medicine?

because some tablets needs to go deeper in the body for it to work effectively. chewable tabs just breaks down from the mouth then its in small amounts before it reach your insides.

Different reasons. Some substances taste bad and can not be chewed. Children's safety is another aspect.
