First of all people are replying that BET/Viacom is owned by Whites. That is not true.

The owner is a man named Sumner Redstone. He is a Jew that was born with the name Murray Rothstein but later changed it.

You can read the added link for more information on the media and some of the motives behind it.

Every time I read such a question I am reminded how little some people know about American culture. Mainstream America, the majority population is white. Can't argue that. Mainstream culture is well represented not as "White Entertainment" but as "Entertainment" as "American Entertainment" Think T.V. shows like "Friends", Seinfeld, and all the other TV shows, movies, music. Think of everything in the entertainment industry with a majority white entertainers, singers, actors, etc. That's an amazing amount to think of. So called "White Entertainment is so ingrained in our culture that we know it as "music" at least I do. I'm a Black-American and an 80s girl so I grew up listening to serious 80s groups, Journey (my all time favorite) Air Supply, Chicago, on and on. Is that "White Entertainment"? no it's pure 80s American entertainment. It's taken decades for so called white entertainment to be mainstreamed as American entertainment and for Black Entertainment to have a voice at all. That's not going to change because some people want to see the word "white" in front of all those, songs, movies, showes, on and on that are represented by white people in the American culture. It's the weekend, relax, go see a movie there are plenty to choose from. But even if there's not one minority in the movie, it won't be called a "White movie". It's just a movie.

ABC, CBS, Fox news, CNN, Bravo, Lifetime, to name a few are white entertainment television. The majority of channels still have predominantly white shows and actors. There is usually a token minority or two. BET and other like channels allow shows and minorities the opportunity to be broadcast to a large audience. One of the problems in the United States is that we want to pretend that racism ended a long time ago and does not exist anymore,

BET does not promote black supremacy white people are on BET all the time and as matter of fact BET is owned by a white man the same man that owns Viacom which also ownes other networks like CBS, MTV, VH1, Nick etc. So if WET is not promoting white supremacy then I don't see how anything could be wrong with it.

And the person above me is obviously lacking brain cells because there is a White Persons College Fund(http://www.dailytoreador.com/media/storage/paper870/news/2003/02/26/CampusNews/Undergrad.Creates.Fund.For.Whites.Only-1276073.shtml?norewrite200612152055&sourcedomain=www.dailytoreador.com)

Why don't you do a search for "BET," on this site so you can see how many hundreds of people have asked the same question.

Or you could ask the whites who run Viacom. Viacom bought the BET company in 2000 for $3 billion. Yet they haven't changed the name and they're white! How can this be? It must be that they're racist - against themselves!

Why don't you write to Viacom and suggest a white entertainment channel. Or, you could just turn to CMT or ABC or CBS or NBC or CNN if you want to see white entertainment channels.

Please, please, please...............take a look at reality and what does it reveal......this is semantics............what does the asker of this question really want? What is the issue? What an entity is called? Or What an entity really is?
I'm white, but I can see that there is a need for things like the UNited ***** College Fund..............and for the most part....nbc,abc,cbs,fox and on and on are white institutions. quit whinning like a little child......."oh Johnny's got a firetruck, I want a firetruck"!

Because when blacks and hispanics do it, it's ok. If we do it, we are racists. Somewhere down the line, things got messed up. However, maybe there are things we can do to shift that back. Example.....the united ***** college fund........apply for it. If they turn you down because you are white, sue them for discrimination.
