It doesn't seem that many people have. Half the answers I find for people I find by doing a basic Google search. I worry about some people, since being able to do research is an essential ability to have in life.

This is either a joke or a serious question, I will assume the later.

Google is a search engine, the name is based on the number Goggle, which is a 1 followed by 100 zeros. Since you can't trademark a number the spelling was changed.

The Internet Search Engine is the best thing to happen to research since the invention of the Library. With it you can access the entire world for data. Of course you need to know your sources because some people are just dumb, crazy, or trying to fake you out.

An Internet Search Engine uses Keywords to make your search. The more keywords you input the narrower the search will be. Internet Search Engines use basic logic to operate; namely the "and," "or," "not" functions.

If I was looking for information of Vampires then I could enter a search for just the word "vampire." If I wanted to search for TV shows related to vampires then I would enter "vampires and television" Which would give me a lot of entries for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." If I wanted to search for some other TV show then I would enter "vampire and television not Buffy." Then I would get all the results, except for those that list Buffy as a keyword. Not all Internet Search Engines offer the "not" option (Google doesn't).

If I listed "vampire TV" then I would get results on vampires, and results on TV. Which would be huge. If I wanted pictures on Sarah Michelle Gellar then I would enter " "Sarah Michelle Gellar," " by putting her name in quotes then I confine the search to only one person. If I entered "Sarah Michelle Gellar" then I would get results for other people named Sarah as well. I could use the "or" function then I would enter " "Sarah Michelle Gellar" or Buffy. Both results would give me articles and pictures on Ms Gellar, but most of them would be from the TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

On Google the "and" function is replaced by ":" and the or function is the default function there is no "not' function.

Three top search engines are:
Google.com
Ask.com
Yahoo.com
I also like to use Wikipedia.com an online encyclopedia covering a huge range of subjects with a board of directors who check to make sure that bogus information is not included. This makes it a source that you can trust. You can also trust big companies like Merriam-Webster (who make dictionaries) at Webster.com.

I use Google and Wikipedia to help me answer 90% of the questions that I answer on Yahoo Answers.

Seriously, Google and keyword searches would be an efficient method for a lot of the questions I've seen on here. Some people just like to be spoon fed their information. Maybe because they always have been. When I was a kid, if I had a question, and it was something that could be found in the dictionary or any of the other reference books in our house, my mom would tell me to look it up. Not because she didn't know, but because she wanted me to be able to look things up on my own. It is a valuable life skill. And this was pre-internet. I'm certain if we had internet in our home when I was growing up, she'd have been telling me to check EVERYTHING online that I asked about. Me: "Mommy, where do babies come from?" Mom: "Google it!" hahaha... well ok maybe not everything lol.

Google is good if you know what you are looking for. It is sometimes hard to use google to find, good answers to your questions. Keyword searches often will return false positives and will not give you the exact answers that you are looking for. This is the reason for asking questions and having others answer them directly, to sift through the information that is needed.

It appears people ask questions on here to start a 'conversation' more than anything. But I paste in Google results for answers here often :)
