I just spent the entire day searching my town for Hanukkah candles. I went to over 9 stores. The man working at Walmart didn't even know what a hanukkah candle was, he had to ask someone else. I was very sad that in this day and age non-xmas parafanalia is impossible to come by. How sad!

Bloomington, Illinois, not really a small town.

You'd be able to find them in Skokie or Chicago. Stores carry merchandise based on the demographics. If enough of any ethnic group (Jewish, Hispanic, Asian) move into an area, the merchandise mix of the stores will carry goods that they want. The fact that you couldn't find Chanukah candles in that part of Bloomington means there aren't a lot of Jewish people there.

Do this: Go to the yellow pages and look up "Kosher meats." Wherever that store is, you'll also find stores that carry Chanukah candles, mezuzahs, etc.

Where do you live? Most of the stores in my city carry them---discount store, drugstores, etc.,. Most-if not all-synagogues have them for sale.

It is hard to find when you are not living in a large Jewish community.
