Hi. My teaching team is planning to travel to London this summer to study diversity there. Since we're in the US and haven't been.. we're stumped.

What parts of London have a good mix of cultures? Are there any that are predominately one ethnic group or another? We would like to bring back pictures and cultures to educate our students.

Thanks

London as a whole is extremely diverse, and always has been; with a current population of around 7.5 million, there are over 300 different languages spoken here. It is unlike any other city in the UK in that respect.

The most ethnically and religiously diverse borough in London is Brent, in the north-west of the city.

However , there is a good mix almost everywhere, but some areas with predominantly higher levels of certain groups are as follows:

Indian and Pakistani: Southall, Wembley.

Afro-Carribbean: Brixton, Streatham, Tottenham

Turkish and Greek: Haringey

Jewish: Golders Green, Stamford Hill

Bengali: Whitechapel

Polish: Hammersmith

Australian: Earls Court

Southall is very good for Indian culture--lots of traditional clothing and stuff in the shops and good Indian food. Go to Southall High Street to be in the heart of it. Chinatown in Central London is great for Chinese food and shops. All of London is very diverse, but in Southall and Chinatown it's really different. In many parts of London you'll see people of all races but they will be shopping in the chain stores and dressed like any British person. Closer to time to travel try looking online for cultural festivals. In the summer London has festivals for many cultures--something almost every weekend.

I lived in London.. It is full of diversity everywhere (like NY). There's a large Indian population and you'll find Kiwis, Canadians, Aussies, South Africans, Poles etc working at most hotels. You Can't walk one block without seeing and hearing people from all over the world. Southern London (Brixton) is a little more like American Ghettos.

Pretty much all of London is diverse... in parts its actually quite rare to meet any English people!

But if you're after areas that are more diverse than others, check out places like Brixton or Golders Green,
