My boyfriend and I are expecting a child this spring and he just lost his job. We are in our mid 20's and don't have much money when he IS employed. Anyway, he wants to get his little sister (16) and niece (13) something for christmas because he thinks they'll be heartbroken if he doesnt. They have a huge family and will be getting a ton on gifts from everyone else. I say that they won't care if they don't get one from us, and probably won't even notice. What do you think?
Also, I'm not trying to be stingy. I would like to get them something, or better yet make them something, but we seriously can't afford more than $10 each. What's an inexpensive or hand made gift that would cost only $10 that you would enjoy?

Just things like that. But just remember, it is the thought that counts.

im a little older than 16 lol but when i was in that age group i liked things like makeup and purfume(go to a discount or a dolar store buy them a gift bag with a bottle of nice smelling perfume..some eye shadow, lipgloss, hair stuff etc!)...its not much but it is the thought that counts and just explain to them how money isnt really good right now and if you culd have afforded mroe you would definat;y gotten them something better.. or just get them each a gift card or soemthing...
and take them out for dinner... im sure they will like that!
merry christmas, congrats on the baby and dnty be so wried!

Sit down and have a chat with them. Let them know that you'll just be doing cards and treats this year, no large gifts. They're not too young to understand that they can't always get something awesome from everyone.
Whatever you do, don't let it go unspoken. They might think you forgot about them and feel really bad!
If you HAVE to get them something, how about disposable cameras and little photo albums? You can find both items for under $5 each at Wal-Mart.

You can buy them cute little makeup kits that are like under $5, then add a small bottle of pretty cologne for another $5 (the "mists" that are inexpensive, like by Calgon or Healing Garden).

yea, get them $10 to movies, or Starbucks, Target places where $10 will actually get you something, if you want to get them something a little more personal then maybe like a CD for each or a $10 gift card to iTunes if they have iPods

you could get them a gift vertificate to some wear or go to somewehre like aeropostale or any mall store and get them jewerly. I am sure they will like a pair of ear rings. even if you just get them a card, they will know you are thinking about them
