I am a migrant under the British govt's highly skilled migrant program. I chose here because I used to be a student here. With my background I could land in other countries like Australia, Canada and the US (and this is the case for most migrants who have certain qualifications and experience).
I've been paying tax for 4 years (during which I am not entitled to any benefits apart from the NHS which I hardly use, because we were told to get a medical insurance before we came). The govt is changing its 4-year citizenship rule to 5-year, that means I need to pay another year's tax before I can be a citizen here.
I never survive on benefits in my country, and never thought that I will in another country. But what the British govt did has put me off, and what the news said about migrants has made me feel regretted coming here. The assumption that migrants are here to get benefits is just unfair to people like us.
The perception about migrants in Britain is simply out of proportion.

The new influx has made wages drop and work harder to find especially in manufacturing catering and construction. The goverment is hoping this will balance out and will eventually boost the economy and cause enough growth to support the extra numbers.
HOWEVER a hitch in the economy could throw us back to the thirties. Worst case scenario would be mass unemployment vastly reduced public services, a surge in crime and dire housing shortages. It could polarise the population between super rich and super poor, already happened in parts of the States and South Africa. Are you a gambling man?! Do you trust our goverment on this one? If not time to find greener pastures. Some already are!
Remember the migrants are not to blame I have met a few Poles and they are hardworking honest and friendly people with a sense of moral decency a lot of our own population lack.
Our politicians are playing games with our economy and if it all goes wrong its them we should be pointing fingers at and not those who have came here looking for a better life.
House prices are making me think of migration myself!

Please dont get me started on this one,
ok if we all just stayed in our own countries from the beginning we would not be in this mess but when a country is doing well the whole world wants a piece of it. Im all for sharing but only with those that originally put thier contribution in...but no we have let all and sundry in and now we are in a mess. All the brits are moving abroad cos they are peeved at whats gone on and what thier money has gone on..So the brits move out and the rest of the world move in and gone is Britain the great..only Britain the great provider for all who remains..Most feel this way but our primeministers( those that speak on our behalf) never say what we are all feeling. So much for free speech we have no say in want we all want anymore.....They all stopped listening and we stopped protesting...I here house prices in spain are still on the up.(Ex Pats).and an immigrant can get a good price on his right to buy council house in britain....Obviously in with the new and out with the old.Goodbye England it was good while it lasted..I hear the new monarch is Raj Singh Patel or was it Romanoff .....

We all enjoy cheap holidays, lots are buying abroad. Migration has always happened an always will.
Imigration is'nt the cause of our housing problem on its own.
The banks an morgage companies that are offering lifelong/ 5 times wage value morgages are keeping the prices high.
Whilst the system needs overhauling especially to provide an equal service to natives as foreigners you can't expect people not to want to better their situation.
Its Human nature to want to impropve, its what we do.
The biggest thing thats wrong with our housing market is the obscene amounts of money spent on stamp duty.
Our tax system is removing all the insentive to stay and work here, that's why so many are leaving. It's still good in comparrison to Europe thats why its so attractive, an I'm sorry but its everyone thats voted Labour thats allowed it to happen, were well an truly stuck in the E.U. now an this is the bed we've made for ourselves, we can't sign up for it an then back out of what we don't like.
Oh no, that's just what we do, hence why were becoming so unpopular with our neighbours.
If we keep siding with the U.S. an they keep screwing us on things like steel, an we don't fully get into Europe, we're gonna find we've waiting to long to stand on our own.
This government needs to start helping big business instead of taxing the hide off it.
Sorry, went a little on a tangent. It is linked though, it just makes me mad.

Britains doors were always open, to people who came here to work. However this is not now the case. Britain and indeed Ireland, is a magnet to spongers from all over the globe.British schools are being affected because of language problems, speculators are pushing up house prices in order that they make huge profits from rental income, the health service cannot cope, and the criminal elements coming in are increasing the rate of crime. Only bona-fide immigrants who can support themselves, (as they did in the past) should be allowed in.

I am someone wanting to migrate to the UK from the us and your country is not the easiest to get into. I think that the US should follow your example. Here people who migrate legally have the ability to get signature loans right off of the plane, welfare, food stamps, free medical, and 7 years NO TAXES of any kind. I wasn't expecting all of that but it really surprised me that legal immigrants to the UK don't qualify for any help what so ever. It may be different with people coming in from the EU I wouldn't know. The real estate prices are unbelievable everywhere! At least your government actually tries to limit the amount of people it lets in instead of turning a blind eye and then freaking out because the citizens raise hell about it.

I think it's great, if they come here and contribute to society in a good and productive way, we all have something to gain, we can learn so much from other people, also as with everyone you get the people who work hard and then those that don't, they also take jobs that some English nationals aren't prepared to get out of bed and do!
We live on a globe, it's a global community for goodness sake show some compassion and respect for the other thinking, feeling human beings around you and if your cross with the government for not providing something then stand up and fight for your cause, do something about it! Just don't blame innocent people.

Stop it right now! Although it would be a bit like closing the door after the horse has bolted. We are under so much pressure with the heaving amount of population already being squeezed into such a small country. In addition to this, we are being far to soft by giving them all housing and benefits; they are bleeding all of the tax payers dry. Diversity simply does not work! Enoch Powell was right!!!!!!!!!

I think you cannot blame people for coming here if the law of the land allows it. Therefore, if you dont want high immigration you have to toughen the laws. But, you have to consider whether you want to allow immigration from certain countries only, from all countries till the quota is reached or what? on the surface it seems like a simple question but really it just creates other questions

Since when does a english person living in england have to live in fear of national pride.
Its an absoloute joke, the government think more about the immigrants and how they don't want to seem untoward them, but they dont get a toss about the people that voted them there (Thats right voted, something we can do and they can't)
If the immigrants voted we would be done for.
