I have nothing against it. Hope to visit Great Britain again soon. People there are great, the police are well trained, and the pubs are relatively affordable after conversion.

Never heard SO many generalisations as here on Yahoo.....
THE WORLD is made up of so many people with so many different opinions that it makes answering such questions a waste of time.

However, for you poor confused peeps, the word GREAT in front of Britain was never meant to mean that Britain was truly GREAT. Although it must have been at the height of Empire. It was simply put there to differentiate it from Brittany in France which is smaller than the UK.
In other words Great Britain meant BIG Britain. Phew!

I personally love it in Great Britain. I live in the states but travel there several times a month on business. I love the countryside and the history. I spend so much time over there that I've become involved in the news, sports and TV programs there as much as at home. People from Great Britain are actually pretty similar to the people in the States.

Do you notice how those who put Great Britain Down, are the ones who have never been to the UK.

For a Small country, you have a lot of Names, Such as UK, GB, and your smaller individual county names.

I too have to agree with a previous answer, I think it is about time the UK, lost it's great British Title, as the UK, is no longer a "Great Country", so to speak.

I love a little city over there called Chester, It has allot of History, dating many thousands of years, also has a superb country side.

I think Great Britain is Great, a very smart and savvy nation in terms of overseas affairs, financially and society. There are a few originals who are racist but can't understand without the immigrants it would not be what is was since the 1900 whether it be people who just sit on their *** and claim benefits or people who go out to improve the economy. Great Britain has been very kind to me since i arrived 15 years ago and gives me and others the freedom to aspire to any goal without restrictions.

I need to correct Mark (and a lot of people think the same!) who wrote:

Firstly, there is only one name for the entity you are thinking of which has Tony Blair as Prime Minister and the Queen as Head of State: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. GB is a huge island and Northern Ireland is the northern part of the island of Ireland. See? The UK of GB and NI is made up of "constituent countries" (something in between a county or US-style state and a full country). Every country in the world has its own complexities and this is one of ours....we're kind of 4 countries in one.

The "Great" in Great Britain is not a title we gave ourselves once we thought we started rockin` as the world's superpower. "Great" refers to the biggest island in the British isles: the one consisting of England, Scotland and Wales. Although it is kinda funny so many people think what they do...indeed, did they really think much?! At what point do you decide....hang on, we're great, slap a "Great" at the start there. Oh look, we've won two world wars, now slap a "Really f******" on!

I am English not BritishWe should drop the Great as most of the Empire gone.Of course the Great also refers to our being four countries.Scotland and Wales not self supporting but they want to be independant.Let them go it would save the English a lot of money.Ireland with free tax zones to encourage new business very astute. In years to come there will be a United Ireland. What I really hate our being lapdogs to America.I think that Great Britian in the past did so much to benefit The World. It was a major independant power. Now they should try to do it again

I'm Irish so I think it would be best for me to keep my opinion on this matter to myself.

I'm sorry I had to edit my answer after seeing what Jjinbkk said. Great Britain does NOT include Ireland, it includes Northern Ireland which is six counties and the Republic of Ireland is independant. There will NEVER be a 'United Ireland'. A statement like that from someone who lives in the UK is completely ignorant.
