Everyone has good ideas, but here is the best:

www.bensbargains.net

This site scours all of the sites mentioned (buy, tigerdirect, newegg, officedepot, etc) BUT ALSO stacks on coupons, rebates, and other known promotional codes ON TOP of everything else.

The result: You get the absolutely lowest possible price (at least for today).

Check it out. The best deal, by far, was at OfiiceMax.com for $159 + free shipping. Don't know how picky you are for brands, though.

Good luck!

First go here are read the two "For Dummies..." articles on monitors and flat panels. Lots of good info.

http://tech.yahoo.com/rc/monitors/115;_ylt=AsAstze5_UD.bbbuGXLwQzUFLZA5

This is where I shop.

http://www.tigerdirect.com
http://www.pricewatch.com

Look for a good deal on a 19" with a contrast ratio of at least 700:1. This will provide nice sharp edges on larger font text. If you read those articles, you'll find that judging a monitor using text is much better than using video.

Review the tech info on each monitor before you buy one, even if you have to visit the manufacturers web site to find out the specifics.

If you shop wisely, you'll find that the price of 17" versus 19" flat panels is essentially negligible. So it's best to go for the 19".
Also, you should be able to find a good monitor with a decent rebate. I've found that the final cost should be around $150 after rebates.

Read those "dummies" articles and have fun shopping.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

1. E-Bay - Very wide variety
2. Yahoo Auctions
3. Wait until after Christmas and get a returned one for almost half the price. Circuit City has nice deals.
4. Amazon.com
