Don't listen to any of the insults hurled at you by the ignorant and/or brainwashed masses out there.
Don't let any guilt you either.
Women for many years smoked while pregnant and although it can cause some complications such as low birth weight and a harder labor and delivery, the baby isn't going to have an addiction when it's born.
The low birth weight comes from the factors of oxygen in the blood and NOT the nicotene.
There is a placental blood barrier that protects your baby from a lot more than the general anti-smoking public would like for you to believe. Stress is worse for you than smoking and if smoking kept you calm, more power to you. Then again, what pregnant woman ISN'T under a lot of stress?? HAHA!!
I would slow down on the smoking for the simple fact that it's not really good for you...but your baby isn't going to die or be born all deformed from it.
Please stop worrying and look forward to having your baby and the wonderful blessing you have had bestowed upon you.
And stop listening to people that tell you that you are evil for smoking. If all of these ad campaigns were focused on informing people of the TRUTH rather than brainwashing, we'd have far less hypocrites out there. The new ads have been geared towards the younger populations and the only way to get through to a lot of young people is a scare tactic. Unfortunately it has turned a lot of them into crass, judgemental imbeciles.
Anyway...
Congratulations!!
Listen to your doctor....Your baby is going to be just fine.
:)

Quitting smoking at anytime is beneficial. You can't do anything about the past but look ahead. Since your dr. says the baby is developing well, you should be assured by that. Ofcourse after your baby is born, it will be as important to stop smoking as second hand smoke to a newborn is dangerous. Talk to your Dr. about the difficulties you're having with quitting. There are many smoking cessation products out on the market now so maybe your Dr. can recommend one for you to take during this stage of pregnancy. Ask your Dr. first before taking any medication b/c for some meds, pregnancy is a contraindication, meaning is it not recommended. Good luck and make up your mind to take the first step. Think of your quitting as the first gift you give to your child.

Well it is not the best thing to do while pregnant but don't be too hard on yourself, you do not need the added stress! At least you are not drinking doing crack or smoking pot!!!
I was a smoker until I got pregnant and for me what made me quit was visualizing my little baby with a cigarette in her little mouth huffing and coughing! I quit in the 1st month luckily! It is not too late, you can do it you have the will power, ask your Doctor if it safe for you to quit now? If not, then please as soon as you lovely baby comes into this world STOP! Set a good example for him/her you are all they will have and they will look at what you do and life their life the same way.
Learn to love yourself, I have a few friends who are single moms and it is difficult but you know what they love their kids and try to do the best for them!
Please take care of you, once the baby is born there will be more stress and almost no sleep! Get help somehow you will need it! Make sure before you leave the hospital you have a list of community services that can help you with any problems once you and your beautiful child are home! Call them if you baby stresses you please or if you feel too emotionally upset! It happens to all mothers but most of us have a network of friends, family and husband to turn to for support and a break!
Good Luck to you both!!!

Well, you should have quit. You didn't. It's too late to do anything at all about what you should have done and didn't do. So, it's time to move on. Maybe I can help a little.
Think of it this way: smoking increases the risk, again, it increases the risk, of bad things happening during pregnancy. It does not guarantee bad things will happen. Your chances are good that everything is going to turn out fine. My mother smoked and drank and I'm fine (or was fine, no birth related problems). We had generations of people smoking and drinking during pregnancy and most people turned out ok. Your chances are good that everything will be fine.
Relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and your delivery. Just make this a time of excitement and joy from here on.

My mother smoked during her pregnancy with me. Fortunately, I have never had any really serious problems. I understand that it can calm you and whatnot, but you have got to realize which is more important. Your smoking or your baby.
Even though the doctor says your baby is fine, don't take that as a blank check to keep smoking. And have you thought about the breast feeding issue? You don't want that nicotine going to your child. I know it's tough, but you are going to be a mommy soon, so don't worry and just do your best to quit. For you and your baby. Best of luck.

I agree that you've missed the biggest problem with smoking during pregnancy -- premature birth. Your baby may still be at risk for low birth weight, though.
Try really hard to quit. It is bad for babies and children (and anybody) to inhale second hand smoke. Also, it makes you smell bad. You are going to cuddle and love and (hopefully) nurse your baby. You will both enjoy it more without the worry and smell of smoke.
Smoking inhibits your ability to smell. In the case of poopy diapers, this may be a good thing, but you'll miss that wonderful milky baby smell. It doesn't last long, and it isn't very strong.
If you can be a good mother, especially a single one, you can quit smoking. Find a mom's club near you for some advice and support.
Best wishes.

that can be a scary thing with a guilty conscience but truely if your doctor said everything is going good as it looks then you have maybe a 10% chance that something will show up when its born but really thats with any child. i would encourage you to quit before you pop that child out because it can cause allergies in various things, breathing problems will develop and get prgressively worse. your baby's health is depending on your will power. you smoked through the pregnancy, not smart but right now is the most crucial part as your baby discovers the outside world. you cannot breast feed now because you will be giving your baby nicotine and other carcinogens through the milk. as your baby thrives in the outside world you should do your part to make it the healthiest place possible. if you cant quit 100% before birth than ALWAYS smoke outside, change your clothes and wash your hands after smoking. smoke with your hair up too that way its better than smoking in the house and your baby wont be exposed hardly at all.
good luck with everything
have a happy holiday season

If this entire tale is authentic... and that i'm searching it demanding to have self belief that it will be, then I propose you search for help by using remedy. i'm extremely shocked that you under no circumstances fairly were given any counselling earlier to now so it is a few thing you ought to search for to do. it must be functional you to target to take care of those innovations. You stated on your tale that you're literally actually about to educate 14 and that the incident of you telling your dad and her being arrested (and also you telling your dad no longer to press costs) befell 9 years in the past. so that you've been 5, probable extremely youthful, once you informed your dad no longer to press costs? no longer some thing I assume a 5 365 days previous to assert or some thing I assume a father to adhere to. I responded above to provide you the coolest thing about the doubt.

Listen to your doctor. i smoked thru 2 pregnancies and both my children are fit and healthy. Both my kids were normal weight and my first even came out a week late. You have slowed down which is a good thing. To all those people who gave a nasty response to a worried pregnant woman, go to hell, you high and mighty, holier than thou a**holes. Dont pay any attention to them you will be fine your baby will be fine and if there is problems later no-one can guarantee with any certainty that it was you smoking. I know women that did everything right but still had problems. Both of my kids have a healthy lung capacity, no growth problems, no mental problems (well other than being normal kids) and no other health problems. Just relax and enjoy whats left of your pregnancy there is plenty of time and reasons later to worry i.e when he/she is a toddler

Luckily, you've missed one potential problem with smoking while pregnant, which is having a pre-term birth. However, there probably still is a risk for stillbirth or low birth rate. Low birth rate makes a child more susceptible to cerebral palsy, mental retardation and learning problems.
I like that you realize the risks associated and that you shouldn't have smoked. It shows that you do care about the health of your baby. Many women who smoke, drink or do drugs while pregnant don't seem to care about the health of the baby at all, which is saddening. You do seem to care, and the fact that you have now stopped smoking is indicative of that.
Good luck and I hope you have a perfectly healthy baby.
