Why don't you write a report on: "English, the most difficult to language to learn."

Some fast references for you:

Plato warned that reading would be the downfall of oral tradition and memory.

REASONS WHY The English language is so hard to learn. Learning to read in English is more difficult than other languages for everyone to learn.1) The alphabet was created for languages with five vowels, while English has sixteen.

2) The history of English is complicated, is because it incorporates spelling patterns from several different languages. Look to Irish American Vernacular English and also see examples from First Nation languages.

As a result you can appreciate the confusion below.
This is passed on by a linguist, original author unknown.

The bandage was wound around the wound.
The farm was used to produce produce.
The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
We must polish the Polish furniture.
He could lead if he would get the lead out.
The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present.
A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
I did not object to the object.
The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
They were too close to the door to close it.
The buck does funny things when the does are present.
A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
After a number of injections my jaw got number.
Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Here are some interesting topics:

(1) Civil Rights History
The first woman to run for President did so at a time women were not even allowed to vote. Look up "Victoria Woodhull" and the Equal Rights Party. Woodhull ran for office with Frederick Douglass as her running mate, in a campaign to defend the voting rights of women and blacks as equal issues of human rights.

Their approach was so radical, and considered such a threat to either movement, that Woodhull was discredited by other feminists, such as Susan B. Anthony, and is censored to this day from history books.

(2) Current news

The founder of the Grameen Bank in Bangladesh recently won the Nobel Peace Prize for 30 years' of work in "microcredit" financing, where small loans are invested to jumpstart businesses in low-income communities to eradicate poverty. Instead of charitable handouts, poor families receive free training to develop business plans to become financially independent.

The Grameen Bank program in Dallas, Texas, has already partnered with the Federal Reserve on outreach projects here in the U.S. So a foreseeable alternative to welfare handouts, which reward dependence, could be created by expanding this program of microcredit lending, financial education and business training to break the cycle of poverty nationwide.

(3) Alternative Currency

Did you know there is a legal way to mint your own money?

Some basic rules: the bills have to be smaller in size than a one dollar bill, but larger in denomination; and any tax to the government that would normally be paid on a transaction must still be paid on alternative currency as well. I think there is also a geographic limitation, and the businesses/individuals participating, of course, have the option to accept alternative currency or not.

These are basically barter coupons; and again, the federal tax laws still apply to goods or services exchanged using barter as with any form of currency.

Write about something you're interested in... or something that you know a lot about, preferably a combination of the two. For example, in fourth grade, I knew everything about Laura Ingalls Wilder. Do you know a lot about a sport? A person? A country?
