(1) Civil Rights History
The first woman to run for President did so at a time women were not even allowed to vote. Look up "Victoria Woodhull" and the Equal Rights Party. Woodhull ran for office with Frederick Douglass as her running mate, in a campaign to defend the voting rights of women and blacks as equal issues of human rights.

Their approach was so radical, and considered such a threat to either movement, that Woodhull was discredited by other feminists, such as Susan B. Anthony, and is censored to this day from history books.

Some basic rules: the bills have to be smaller in size than a one dollar bill, but larger in denomination; and any tax to the government that would normally be paid on a transaction must still be paid on alternative currency as well. I think there is also a geographic limitation, and the businesses/individuals participating, of course, have the option to accept alternative currency or not.

These are basically barter coupons; and again, the federal tax laws still apply to goods or services exchanged using barter as with any form of currency.
