What makes the song "Ice Ice Baby" such an embarresment. Whenever I hear it, somebody from that generation is like "Oh, brother" and I don't understand what's wrong with it!

vanilla (aka rob vanwinkle) was the begining of the manufactured white rapper from the street. which killed his credibilty with the fans and media. because he was white upper middle class and tried to be from the street,he also ripped off the queen song under pressure that he sampled to make his one hit wonder and them lied about it

He sampled the 1980 song Under Pressure, which was by David
Bowie and Queen, two of the most respected musical artists inside and outside the music industry. The problem was Vanilla Ice didn't even bother to license, or credit the song. That was why he caught a lot of flak. Sampling is one thing, but to do it without the permission of the original artist, or artists in this case, because I believe Bowie contributed as much to the song's appeal as Queen did with his contribution to the track.
The liner notes indicate the author of Ice Ice Baby as Vanilla Ice, Earthquake and M. Smooth. Additionally, the liners thank such artists (presumably for inspiration) as MC Hammer, Ice T, Public Enemy, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Cash Money, EPMD and 2 Live Crew. Conspicuously absent are David Bowie and Queen.
This case never went to trial, although rumor has it that the copyright holders of Under Pressure threatened suit and settled with Vanilla out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Wham! Vanilla ice stole that bass line from Under Pressure. But that's just my opinion,

I don't know if it's the song itself, so much as the fact that the guy presented himself a certain way and turned out to be a total poser.Plus, he ripped off a riff from "Under Pressure," by Queen.

I agree with Angluvskel. That is probably true. I know I feel the same way about songs that they play now.

You kidding?

So you're saying it in No way sounds ridiculous to you? You even like the lyrics...& the ripped off Queen bassline melody, huh?

The guy was a total hack & everyone knew it back then. That's why we're still rolling our eyes at him...

I'm thinking that's based on their dislike for Vanilla Ice, and also because the song is old and was overplayed and we all got sick of it. :)

"White guy tries to act black" wasn't cool back in the day.
