Why is there such a culture of corruption in the Republican party?

What the Con responders fail to acknowledge is that 1994 was then, 2006 is now.

When the Republicans came in in '94, they bleated constantly about Democratic corruption/scandals of the early 90's and held themselves up as gleaming idealistic visionaries who would "clean up" Washington.

Instead, as we all know, the so called "Republican Revolution" was a 12 year run of, arguably the most vile corruption in the history of the nation.

To be fair, taking the long view, there has been plenty of corruption and dishonesty on both sides.

But Conservatives need to understand that they are going to get plenty of what Gingrich et al dished out to the Dems in '94. Wait till Waxman gets started with his investigations.

Payback's a *****.

First let me ask why you believe that so many neocons are corrupt? Where did you get the idea ? where are your facts? Have you researched it at all to see who actually is being convicted lately? Are you aware that many Democrats are not being allowed to take over committee chairmenships because they have such bad backgrounds in corruption and ethics?

Second neocon does not equate with the rep party..many republicans would not fit the label since there is very little conservative about their politics ( they spend money like whores at a std clinic ETC)

AS TO YOUR QUESTION..For the same reason so many others are. People are people ..some good some bad and power and money can be used to persuade those who are bad. Corruption is not exclusive to one political idealoge. For example - probably just as many democrat as rep congressmen and senators over the years have been convicted of corruption etc.

In the US we have relativley little corruption compared to the world. those who think the US is corrupt are unaware of how little goes on here that goes on in the rest of the world. It is like saying that he US which grants the broadest rights of any country in the world ..is the primary oppressor and human rights violator in the world. Untrue, though many have been told so because it achieves a politcal goal ( truth in politics ugh)Never have so many people been given rights than under the direction or result of the US - japan germany france Afghanistan, Irag, Kuwait, S korea, Poland, etc

Currently the only congressman under a cloud of direct corruption ie payoffs vs some technical foul about how they registered campagin monies etc - or screaming about abramoff who was in bed with both parties in handing out favors etc) is a democrat from louisiana whom they found 90k of the 100k cash given to him on tape as a bribe ..Tehe rest is all stuff dug up by poltically moptivated District attorneys who are democrats..

so your question in light of th facts is??

I think it's funny how liberals use the term "neocon" as a bad word. There's nothing wrong with neocons.

Also both parties have had their fair share of corruption; let us not forget of "slick-willy" clinton himself.

Also don't forget 1994. Before then, Democrats were in the same position as Republicans are now. Democrats got terribly corrupted and that's why the Republicans took back the Senate and House of Represenatives. If you knew history, you would know this.

I see far more corruption in the democratic party. Heck, Al Gore still thinks he invented the internet!!!

Are you sure that only Neocons are corrupt? Have you ever heard of Ted Kennedy? Is he a neocon? Have you ever heard of John Murtha? Is he a neocon? Or how about the democrat congressman William Jefferson from New Orleans that was found with 90,000.00 in cash in his freezer that was part of a 100,000.00 bribe? ( he was just re-ellected). Or what about Alcee Hastings he was impeached as a judge and then Nancy Pelosi said she would appoint him to the house intelligence committee? Is he a neocon?

There is corruption in every party and at every level of government. The reason is the old saying "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"?

Neo-Cons and Republicans are two different entities. So it's unfair to lump them together. If you think Republicans are more corrupt then Democrats.I invite you to NJ.Our taxes are the highest. Our politicians can have as many public jobs as they can get. They can even collect pensions if they are in prison.Convicted by the Feds of course the state sees no corruption, and convicts no one.Democrats run this state top to bottom.Republicans are just as bad,but we'll never know.Even are Republicans are Rino's.

First, what is a NeoCon? I think each party has its fair share of corruption.

Do you remember why the Republicans took control of the house and senate? Your own parties, corruption and scandals. You are the pot calling the kettle black!

Their smug self-righteousness is a product of the feelings of guilt they have over their corrupt activities. Rather than accept themselves as human, they hide behind the mask of moral superiority and then perpetually try to avoid having to deal with their own hypocrisy.

Not all NeoCons are that complicated though. Some are just plain stubborn.
