Some poeple just don't like the noise of wind chimes or appreciate being subjected (their feelings... not necessarily mine!) to it.
I don't know what your windchimes look like but rainbows don't immediately mean "GAY" to everyone who sees them. Rainbows are beauiful and plenty of str8 folk love 'em without knowing they have any meaning at all other than looking pretty.
I wouldn't assume they were gay bashers or haters or anything else... but I would assume they were kinda cowardly for not simply talking to you about it first.
Is it possible some kids might have stolen them?

I think people just don't like wind chimes ringing that they have no control over. My guess is it's a wind chime thing, not a gay thing.

They might just be thugs. Things get stolen from my house all the time. I get harrassed at school too about everything which is weird because if you look at me and have a conversation with me you would think of me as a normal kid that skateboards. So I joined martial arts and I'm waiting for the day to get in a fight. Join Martail Arts. You can go to sports then martial arts and ask questions about where to go and stuff.

It may just be a thieving gay person in your neighbourhood and not intolerant people at all... By an ugly wind chime and see what happens!

Unless you actually saw your neighbors steal them then you are just making assumptions that are bad. The best way to find out is to bring them a gift (christmas is around) and give them the opportunity to show themselves. Otherwise you are just making a fool of yourself.
Everyone deserves a chance.
