One of the things you can do is clear the resolver cache.
Click Start, then Run and type "cmd" without the quotes. When the DOS screen comes up, type ipconfig /flushdns

This will clear out a lot of things.

But you probably need spyware. You didn't say if you have IE6 or IE7. If you downloaded and installed IE7, that may be part of your problem.

You can also get Google's Web Accelerator. It really does speed things up. I have cable, and it makes it run much faster.

You can also go to Windows Live One Care, and use the cleanup only for Windows XP.

This will help clean up your registry, get rid of excess junk and make the computer run a lot better and faster.

Try deleting your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies. Up top on mine it; Tools > Internet Options > Delete Cookies/Temp Files. If a box open for "Off-line Files" Check it. Many times these files all get loaded up and the Hard-Drive have to search for the correct file, so, the more the merrier and the slower to find.
One other is new programs installed, usually a Virus or Spy-Ware program. These may run in the back ground looking for updates and it slow the Browser.

AIM and Quicktime really slowed down my computer and nothing would work - so if you have recently installed them, then remove them.
You should also re-install any recently installed programs and get rid of any that you don't use regularly. Do this by going to control panel and the option ' Add/Remove programs.'
Do you regularly use 'disk cleanup' and 'disk defragmenter'? These are useful. You should also perform any windows updates and run your internet security e.g Norton Antivirus.
If this doesn't work then install 'Spybot - Search and Destroy.' It scans your system for spyware and any other threats. Once spybot has found these threats you can subsequently remove them.
After you have performed these your whole system should respond faster.
Hope this helps!

Have you run an ad-aware type program to get rid of pop ups that have been blocked or viruses? You can also try deleting cookies and temporary internet files. Those 3 things usually work!!
