How many attacks will be required? How large must these attacks be? How many people must die? The evidence is spread out before us. We have an enemy who hates us. Their hate is rooted in a religious ideology which cannot be reasoned with and cannot be rationalized. Has America done things to incite some of this hate? Absolutely! However, the root cause goes much deeper than this. America's actions do not explain the total history or terrorism, nor do they explain attacks against other countries (most notably Spain) who have tried unsuccessfully to appease the terrorists. At what point will people stop blaming their own country and wake up to the realistic danger which faces us? I can understand not liking the war or the administration, but these problems and the evidence of their existence well predate both. I also understand not giving in to fear, but isn't denial worse than fear in the long run?

bonehead: England has stood with us in the war on terror. Spain withdrew their forces and allowed terrorists to effect their elections and then were still attacked. I welcome all opinions, but at least try to think critically.

AlfRed E nEuMaN 4 preSIDent: Interesting tirade, adaquately shows your hate for the president, but does not answer the question. This question was intentionally devoid of partisan sentiment, but I guess some people cannot see past the hate and act in a reasonable manner. No matter this is America, enjoy your right to free speech.

right you are ken: Actually I have diminished nothing. I admitted that American actions have contributed to the hate, but here again either you did not read the question or cannot consider the whole, but rather only parts. So is it your contention that American actions caused the Spanish attacks?

kent m: See the response above. People answering negatively here are invested in making the whole problem about America. You completely ignore any historical context or other world involvement. You further completely dismiss the religious angle which the terrorists themselves claim allegiance to unfailingly. You indict others as not wanting to address the entire issue when you yourself are just as guilty.

In my conversations with people, I have found that the majority of liberal democrats have a mindset of appeasement. They believe if we "talk and negotiate" with the countries who for the past 20-30 years tried to bring down the west, they will then "like" us and leave us (the U.S.) alone. Their minds cannot wrap around the idea that this religious ideology "hates" them, and hates them because they are not living in the way that their religion dictates.
Their socialistic ideas of "share the wealth" makes them dislike any capitalistic enterprise that rewards work with pay. They "feel" more than "think" and this leads to blaming the government for every ill happening in the U.S. as well as the world. Ex. Hurricane Katrina.
They, (and I know that this does not mean every single liberal democrat, only those I have contact with and those liberal op eds, as well as political forums) will continue to deny the true threat, as well as continue to blame America, because to do otherwise, would mean their worldview has been wrong.
If they would read what's happening in Somalia, England, France, and many other countries with the demands of the militant Muslims on how these countries should be governed, perhaps the U.S. would be more united in this long struggle of ideology versus freedom.

I agree that there are terrorist threats and I'm a moderate Liberal, but I don't agree that the colonial military excursion in Iraq has anything to do with fighting it...it is definitely making more enemies...if you or others would address this and at least say "it might be adding to the problem", I might respect youall more..it is aggravating to listen to this sort of rhetoric when it is obvious that the US will not just leave (even if it escalales)...your statements about terrorists do nothing to solve anything

I don't think by increasing instability in the Middle East and infringing on another Arab state's sovereignty we'll be able to stop terror. It is only making them angrier, and rallying more supporters to their cause. No matter what we try to change in the regimes, terrorism will never end. Neither will the jihad...but it won't be as virulent if we step back a little.

When will people wake up and realize just how much our part plays in these terrorists hating us. We have a long history of trying to either steal or manipulate other countries to get at their natural resources. Your question tries to diminish our role in their hatred towards us and blame people who know enough of our history to face the truth in that role. If we would keep our noses out of their business and try diplomatic relations and fair trade agreements with these countries maybe they wouldn't hate us the way they do. You wake up.

once a bunch dems are blown to pieces...then again they might chalk it up to a republican conspiracy. Everyone should realize these people will stop at nothing. look what they have done to innocent people. Who can cut off someones head or kill people by the masses. I dont agree with going to war, but I also dont agree with the dems plan....lets talk to them?? Are you kidding me? You get your *** over there. How many pieces will you end up in?

Terrorism?
It's all about "how dumb Bush is". If these same people would wash the sand from their vaginas, they'd see that terrorists don't really care if you're "for the war" or "against the war". They'll kill you for being an infidel. (Unless of course, you convert and put the burkah on).
Never mind the facts. Bushe iz teh dumbb!!!!! Deee De DEE!

I am afraid it will be the point that it is too late to do anything about it. No one wants to admit it. Either because of fear of retaliation or thinking if they ignore it that it will go away. It will happen eventually and when it does thank your liberal leaders for being so proactive for the people sakes.

... I think we all realize the threats...
when are people going to wake up and realize that Bush isn't really doing anything in his war on terror and that Osama is still out there and we have no concern about the man that killed 3,000?
why is he still alive?
what have we done?
we've had 5 years, there should be no terrorists left by now, yet they are everywhere? we destroyed the nazis and japan in less time and we've barely made a dent in the terrorists?
