First of all, are you talking about a specific year? '78?

Murcer was not a regular player when he came back to the Yankees in '79, he DH'd, played some OF and was a left-handed pinch hitter. Piniella was the primary starting LF (with White) in '78 with Rivers and Reggie. Murcer was a star CF for the Yanks until '74 when he was traded to SF.

Anyway, there was no more feared hitter than Rice in the 70's, but I would rather have Reggie up in a big spot than anyone else I have ever seen in my 30 or so years of being a fan. It was supernatural the way he could rise to the occasion. People can say what they want about him. His teammates may have considered him a PITA on the average day in June, but they loved him like a brother with two guys on and two out in Game 7. He talked a lot, but he backed it up more than anyone ever did.

Rivers was fascinating to watch, he had an inimitable way of spinning the bat like a baton after a swing and miss or foul ball. And he was the slowest walker (like an 80 year old man) out to his position but blazingly fast on the bases. It was the amazing the way that, when he got hot, the whole Yankee team would start to rally.

I have to give it to the Yankees, because of the seven rings between them. And Reggie EARNED all five of the rings he got.

I'd have to say Rice, Lynn, and Yaz. Since I'm a Phillies fan I think I'm alittle more objective than either a Sox or Yankee fan would be. Let's face it, Reggie was for Reggie! Murcer was probably the only one of the three Yankees that was a team player. Rivers was just plain brain dead!!

Mickey Rivers as just crazy, though he was hilarious. Jackson was full of himself and didn't care about anything but Reggie. Murcer was a teammate.

I would say hands down Lynn, Rice, and Yaz were the better teammates.

Hands down, Rice, Lynn and Yaz worked as a team. Reggie was just in it for himself.

rice scared me to death in his era. a hall of famer.. no question about it. yaz was yaz but he was declining in numjbers in the mid 70s.. lynn looked like a sure hof er but tailed off after a couple of solid years,, murcer was a very good player and was my favorite player of all time.. reggie was a pain in the *** but he did excell in october.. rivers was the catalyst in those yankee teams and they didnt start winning till they received him and ed figuroa from the angels for bobby bonds.... amazing player that started rallies by hitting high choppers in the dirt and nobody could throw him out ever..hit 338 after allstar break during his yankee career..how do i answer the question? you cant because too much would need to be known like a particular year that we are talking about... 71? 73? 75? 69?..all solid players but munson, fisk, george scott, bill lee, catfish, guidry, hobson, would of been fine too..

Yankees, don't forget, the great Roy White platooned with Murcer in left. Roy still holds sing. season record for sac. fly with 13.
Remember how Mickey Rivers would twirl his bat around like num chucks after he swung and missed?
Rivers was the best teamate when he gave Bucky Dent the corked bat that hit the famous HR
And Reggie was "the straw that stirred the drink"

There both pretty good. I think Toronto will be a lot better next season so there should be a pretty good race in the east.
