You have to read the footnotes or the abstract of the actual study to find out, as it varies in every case.

Most studies will refer to the symmetry and proportion of facial features.

Actually, attractiveness is graded in regards ti symmetry. Plastic surgeons have this interesting facial chart. It doesn't plot out where your eyes or ears or any other part should, but it measures the symmetry. They discovered that the more symmetrical the face the more attractive the person is thought to be. For example Tom Cruise and Gérard Depardieu. Clearly Tom Cruise is more attractive than Gérard Depardieu. Now get a mirror and picture of each and yourself and see what you find out. If you place the mirror so it divides the face allowing reflection of the mirrored image to replace the right or left side of the face you have the PERFECT symmetrical face of that person. You compare that to their actual face and any differences are notes as marks under Perfect Symmetry.

I hope that answers your question.

I have heard so many different theiories on what is considered attractive. Some believe in the golden ratio, others believe in averageness. The more average a persons looks are the more they are seen as attractive because they look familiar or something like that. I think the age old question of what is attractive is about as difficult to answer as the meaning of life.

Probably by the media. i saw a study where they put a teacher with make up and dressy clothes in front of a class as opposed to a "plain jane" with ordinary clothes and looks in front of a class. The vote said that the "pretty teacher" was a better teacher. in society, attractiveness is a sign of taking good care of yourself and higher social status. Even a person that doesn't have all of the natural beauty can do things to enhance their beauty and are usually preferred to a person who does nothing to make themselves better looking.
