He was not assassinated but shot by a firing squad of the Fascist army rebels of Francisco Franco during the Spanish civil war of 1936-1939. He was a poet and playwright, but he was on the "left," which meant that he sided with and expressed ideas of the socialist republican government. The republicans, who were communists, socialists, and anarchists, also had their share of shooting "rightists." I love this mans poetry ! He was a outspoken man who butted heads with the Spanish govt. in the early 1900's .....
Lorca was also a homosexual and it's said he was murdered not only for his political views but also because of his sexxuality.
The actor Andy Garcis portrayed Lorca in a biography of Lorca's life in the "90's...........
