We can develop attachment towards ATMA by giving up the bodily attachments and belliving in GOD-
Ekam Eva Adviteeyam Brahma (God is one without a second). Man attributes different names and forms to God because of his worldly feelings and outward tendencies. Truly speaking, there is only one God. Ek Prabhu Ke Anek Naam (the one God is referred to by many names). Give up body attachment. Only then can you develop attachment towards the Atma. As you are endowed with a physical body, you have to discharge your duties diligently. However, do not be deluded with the feeling that this is permanent. All the physical relationships are like passing clouds and are subject to change.

It is like asking." Should I like Jayakrishna?" We should know which Jayakrishna is being referred to.
When someone refers to Atma, we should ask which? Jivatma , the Indewller or Paramatma , the universal one? The attachement to the Universal one comes froma deeper understanding of the Indweller.
I feel one should not confused with all big names and definitions of these Atmas. The very fact that you like to live means you have developed an attachment towards yourself. Initially it will be for your body and the sense orgnans. It will take to your mind and then internally, to understand yourself. It is a slow process and there is no quickfix.

Life itself is attached to the Atma and one can not develop it. Yes, standind on a cross road, if the road to the right goes to the world, the opposite direction would be to Atma.

Why would you want to do that, and how would it be possible? Atma is non-attachment.
